Got them in a swap, so I don't know but assume so. Will be saving seed, blight permitting.

Grannie - If you want early fruiting varieties with some taste, then you need some like Polar Star, Siberian or even the humble Kotlas.

I usually grow about 2 dozen varieties, but I'm easily led astray with the addiction.  ;D

goodlife

2 plants per person :o...more like 22 ;D...and then you need few for chickens treats..and some for thank you gifs and visiting in presies..and ...and...
People faces allways lighten up when you visit them with basket of home grown toms, cumbers and baked loaf..and you are always asked to join barbeques.... ;)

grannyjanny

Chickens like tomatoes, that's good to know. I think I had better sow some more then ;D ;D ;D. I've only got 37 seedlings emerged out of 44 + 10 plants. Oh dear famine.

goodlife

Hey there is still plenty of time to sow another batch just for you girls...maybe you could do trial ..which variety they prefer? ;D ::)

grannyjanny

Do they do a worm flavoured tomato ;D. Little so & sos are still running to the back of the coop ever time I go to the guinea pigs. It's going to be fun as I have veg patches behind them too ;D. What breed/breeds do you have?

goodlife

Yes there is worm flavoured ones...but I'm just out of seeds for those ;)My 4 cuckoo marans love any flavour though..and I have 2 mongrels who haven't had a proper taster yet..but yes...we are all tomato crazy here (trying keep in topic)..dog likes tomatoes too and she is not fussy what sort they are as long as they are served with few bisquits, meat & gravy..anything goes...my bees have shown a bit of interest for tomato flowers but they are only ones in family that are not that much bothered about the fruit ;D

cleo

Growing tomatoes is a dangerous addiction.

I started with four, but I just needed another fix-they looked so good(well not Moneymaker).

I`m recovering though-only 22 varieties this year, when it got to 50 I had to ask myself some deep questions ;D

goodlife

Cleo..what are your 22 varieties....?..yeah..nosy ::)

lillian

Mines not that exciting

Sub Artic Plenty
February Jewel
First In The Field
Yellow Brandywine
Totem
Moneymaker
Super Beefsteak

goodlife

your selection look ok Lilian...Have you grown those before? I haven't grown February Jewel before..

What is it that people think that something more widely available is not exciting....of course it is...it own grown...will taste so much better than shop ones and you normally get more than you would buy...Now if you can eat belly full of tasty toms and have pleasure of growing them...yum...if that is not exciting I don't know what is... ;D ;D

sorry...Lilian my "little" moan wasn't personally for you..just general stuff ::)

This is half the pleasure of growing for me, sending a mate home with a bag full of blue spuds and some sweetcorn and some veg like tomatillos, that they have never even seen before. We often chuck in a sourdough loaf too.

goodlife

Yep..I always say to mother in law when she is due to pay visit ..not to do her weekly shopping until afterwards...I'll make veg box up and she don't need to buy much after that...and It makes me feel good too..
Just to read somebodys appreciation from they face is best thank you for me ;D ;D

Did you use all you seeds up with failed ones?

greensausage

No I have 2/3 of each left so I could re sow.

goodlife

Ah..so all is not lost ;D

greensausage

No all is not lost  ;D  I always expect a few failures it part and parcel of growing.

goodlife

Don't we all ::)..are you going to re-sow them?..I alway do...cannot stand defeat ::) At the moment I have one variety that is giving me headache..I've sown three small lots now and still nothing seem to be happening..and new packet too...well if I could get just one to come through >:(..surely there is just one..one hopes ::)

Out of 2 cosmonaut Volkov planted I only got one germinate.

I have mixed my chernomor and my wild cherry together, or should I say my over zealous twin toddlers didnt follow mummies instructions and I wasnt watching. So ive got two of one of those varieties and one of the other. Im guessing that the small one is likely to be the wild cherry.
