Hello everybody,

We planted garlic in October (sets), when we did the onions. All the onions are popping up but no garlic. Is this normal? If not then where are they? Do they just come later?  ???

Thank you

I'm sorry but i've no idea!!!! Just brought garlic sets when we brought the onion sets. I know there was some 'normal' and we also planted some of those giant ones, that are supposed to taste milder. :-[

Elephant garlic tend to take longer to appear above ground, but has probably been busy growing roots. It has been unusually cold this Winter which will delay things, as will how deep you planted the cloves.

Ok thank you. I don't think we planted them too deep. I think we only just covered the top, i wonder if it was deep enough?

Depth depends on your soil... light soils deeper, heavy clays or waterlogged shallower..  :-\

My hardneck was up a couple of weeks after itt went in, the softneck and the elephant garlic has only shown up since christmas..... though it was started in pots and there were roots showing when it went in.....

I posted a while back when my garlic was growing well & then disappeared!
I thought squirrels may have nicked them but someone suggested 'having a furkle'. What with the weather & an attack of sciatica I've only just managed to stagger to the plots.

Hey Ho! they're all growing again. 'Tough cookies' is the only words for it!
