Mortality

We have 3 cut down Buddleia in out garden, leaving fairly large trunks, what can I do to the trunks to prevent them growing again and taking over the garden (as they once did)  ::)
2 of the trunks are in garden walls so digging them out isnt an option.
Please don't be offended by my nickname 'Mortality'
As to its history it was the name of a character I played in an online game called 'Everquest'
The character 'Mortality Rate' was a female Dark Elf Necromancer, the name seemed apt at the time and has been used alot by me over the years.

Buddleia are fairly shallow rooting, so dig what you can, then if you've got a reasonable stump, rock it back and fourth as hard as poss. then give it a good yank.

Its worth a try !

They are nice and attract butterflies like mad, but they grow so fast and take over so quickly. Ours were the purple ones, next door has a white version that has grown into a proper tree !

I prune mine every year, down to knee high - it also makes them more bushy.

Each year they grow to 7 or  8 ft. I prune mid autumn which provides no end of pea sticks up to 6ft long.
Prune down to 2 pairs of leaves. Then in spring just a quick tidy up if required.

You can leave pruning until the spring, but I'm far too busy with the lottie by then.

If you can get hold of a mattock, that would be the easiest way to cut through the roots. You need to get the stump out if you're not using weedkiller.
