Allotments 4 All

I am wanting to grow veg in the back garden (no success on a lottie yet). This will mean moving some small evergreens and a couple of roses we planted last year.  When is the best time to do this please?  I'm thinking some time time soon, but not too soon!

I would think anytime between autumn and spring provided the soil is not frozen or waterlogged. Having said that I moved a rowan tree in July  a couple of years ago and it's still here to tell the tale!Prepare the  planting hole first, then lift the shrub with a ball of soil and plant so that it hardly realises it's being moved. With the rowan I had to chop through some of its roots so I pruned the leafy crown too and gave it water by the bucketload.

I'm going to enlarge my veg plot by moving some shrubs - planning on this week if we don't get any bad frosts. I shall dig large holes to receive them and do a fairly thorough prune, I'm confident they'll survive.  I want to get the space created properly prepared for early veg.
