... And if so, do you find they are rubbish at replying to e-mails? Anyone got a better online share dealing account where they actually reply to you?

I am with IMW (part of Halifax) and they have never replied to the two emails I have sent them in the past!  Other than that though I am very pleased with them.  Their charges are £10 per transaction, a lot cheaper than Barclays were twenty years ago when my father's was buying and selling shares.
