Is this a good time to start a lawn from seed ?

Have almost finished preparing the ground and was just gonna chuck some grass seed at it and leave it.

What do you think ?

Yes go ahead but remember 1/3 more for the birds, plus try to cross cross it with string and old cds (nice and shiny and scary for the birds)

Ive sown a new lawn in October before and as long as its well watered every day it should be fine.

I'd wait a week if your weather is scorching like mine.

I am in Scotland btw.  

There is no grass in the area at the moment, we had it all removed. So we are starting a completely new lawn.

Why are you growing a lawn on your allotment?

I'm going to be doing the same, grass and then 4 fruit trees, Plum, Apple,Pear and Cherry bit of a mini orchard.  I'm allocating a quaerter of the plot, cut grass twice maybe threetimes a year so less maintenance. I'm after a grass that does'nt grow quickly.

I have a lawn around the shed on the allotment - probably one pole in total.  We sit there.  I don't have a lawn at home as such.

Confession - I dont have an allotment.

I too do not have an allotment now. But I did in the past.
My excuse for a lawn at the front has not done to well at present due to the lack of rain and the amount of birds feeding off this.
I would hold off for another week and then let it rain on the soil for a bit before casting your seed.
Maybe then it will do better than mine has! ;)

Hosta I'm in Scotland too and although it has been very dry in Edinburgh, the temperatures are falling and daylight hours reducing sharply. I would sow your grass seed soon as, because you want it establishing before winter is upon us. Just make sure you keep it watered if it stays as dry as it has been.
