I'm pretty sure the answer is yes - but take that with a pinch of salt as I'm lactose intolerant  :D

yes you can,and ive bought in many times when on tour in europe, check the fat content,if you want double cream,it should be 35% or above. cartons come in various sizes, some of them really quite small, depends where you are
when the going gets tough, the tough go digging

If you want single cream it's creme simple, I think double cream is called creme fraiche, but to be honest when you are in the supermarket where the fridges are it should be kind of obvious / ok whether or not it is fresh or not (check the use by date etc)
I take it a holiday is imminent!

Hi 1066.  Oh yes holiday imminent  8) ;D   We go often to France but sometimes when you want some nice fresh cream (as we in England know it) on something and you stick creme fraiche on it - it's not the same - it has that sour twang.  We know we can get it as we got some at a market once - but didn't take any notice of how they named it.  Creme fraiche is what they call it but as I said, the French version has that sour twang to it.  Think I'll try a carton of plain creme - that might do the trick.  Thanks for the pointer.

I probably spend over a month a year in France and have been scratching my head (figuratively speaking) trying to remember what to look for - but having a bit of a blank  ::)  Anyway hope you have a great holiday  8)
