Allotments 4 All

I rang around 10 allotments today to be told they all have a 2-3 year waiting list, when i rang the final one, i was told he didn't do waiting lists because he was fed up of people not notifying him of when they no longer wanted a plot, anyway to cut a long story short he said he is just clearing a plot left by someone who left it unmanageable and once it is done it is mine all mine!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D

I'm hoping for a similar story!  I've just applied to our local council and am told there are 400 on the waiting list, BUT, when the plots are inspected this month, any that are abandoned and "challenging" will be up for grabs by anyone on the list, with those filling in the form most convincingly winning the prize!  I'm hoping that my enthusiasm doesn't wane before I actually get my hands on my very own wilderness to tame!

Why don't you go and offer to help you may get it sooner

I get quite angry when I look around some of the uncultivated plots on our site when there are folks out there waiting for one >:(

I read somewhere if you go to visit the site always carry your spade in your boot.

If a plot has been uncultivated for a long period cutting back the top growth and bagging up rubbish is the easy bit! I Would volunteer to get down and help/do it yourself. Perhaps ask to provide a skip/trailer etc if they are agreeable to that. You may be waiting around for moving the rubbish, which could be done in a few days and allow you to get down to the real work more quickly.

As others have said Jordsbabe go and offer to help.

1. You will get to meet other lottie holders who may have ideas of whats best to grow.

2. It will show you what hard work is ahead of you.

3. You will see exactly whats been planted where, so you get an idea of crop rotation.

4. You might, as said, find some goodies hiding in the wilderness.

5. You might want to keep bushes or plants untouched, instead of getting hacked to death.

I would love to get stuck in there now, but i'm recovering from a back operation, but will have the all clear in about 6 weeks! I'm going to ring in two weeks to see if there are any light duties i can do, and if my hubby can help in anyway!
