Devil's coach horse? Does it arch its back? ???

 :D BB not at lottie found it on the path on Hall Drive and took it home with me so it wouldn't get squished ;D

I do believe its a Lesser Stag beetle / shades x

It's a 'standard-type' beetle not a devil's coach horse. The big head and broad mandibles do look like a Stag Beetle relative, and it could easily be Lesser Stag beetle, but from that angle I'm not sure. I don't have a comprehensive beetle book, and while I do have a couple that cover some of the common ones, I might be finding that one simply because it's the one illustrated.
