daxzen

beetroot

it is a hero plant

they are easy to sow rapidly germinates and they are producing food within weeks - the leaves and stalks are great in a salad and give em six weeks and you can start harvesting the roots which can make it well into the frosty season

it amazes me how many people dont even consider growing it

I reckon you should see a doctor about that Kev, it sounds nasty  :D

cornykev

I went to the doctor because it was hard to hear anything with them in there, he said name the symptons, I replied, Bart, Homer, Marge.   ;D :P
What did I say about rain, I was just putting the last things in the shed and down it came, no lottie this afternoon.
Sorry Garrdentg for taking over your thread, I put some Durham early seeds direct last week and there up all ready and some more beetroot or spring onions wouldn't hurt.     ;D ;D ;D

When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

Lizann

I've just sown some Broccoli raab which can apparently be sown July/August for harvest 40 days later.  Never had it before but hoping it will fill the gaps :0)

Noooooooooo

Anyway back on thread how about some oriental veg like pak choi or chinese cabbages and if you like it you can still sow some florence fennel

Eristic

What am I doing wrong? I'm desperate for quite a bit of space and I cannot find any anywhere. I've already dug out a row of late spuds early and everything else is still growing nicely.

Squashfan

beetroot and turnips get my vote. Perfect for lazy gardeners!  ;D
This year it's squash.
