I am not a happy bunny today, there was a person who tapped at the door today and said that I had to cut my hedge back from the path.
I asked who he was and he stated that he was from the council. When I asked him to produce ID he said that if I didnt cut it back that he would get a gang to cut it back and charge me for the privilge. I asked again for his ID and he just ushered himself away.
I then contacted Northants council to ask whether there has been any report of persons going round to get people to cut back their hedges from the path near the kerbage. They had not sent anyone out nor agreed to have works done of this nature.
I contacted the police with regard to the above matter, and they have filed and logged a reference number.
They say it sounds like a new scam, so beware all.

Thanks for the warning Landimad I'm next door in Warwickshire. Have you got are friendly travelers. Left  us on Sunday  usual stuff rubbish and mess all over the place.

Keep a look out for chalk marks on the pavement outside your property, or markings on nearby lamp/fence posts... Organised groups often leave 'pointers' for their colleagues; indicating properties that they've visited & are worthy of a follow up. :(

Best policy is a blanket I don't buy anything from anyone on the doorstep (though I buy avon stuff etc). Plus I'm very touchy about my garden even if the council touched it i would call the police.

If it was the council then they would have sent a letter first if they haven't then I would suspect they're breaking the law any way.

I have all sorts of scams...the guy that came around and insisted our sofits needed painting just two days after they had been painted by a professional ran down the drive backwards after he got the meanest look i could muster as i told him to go. this year i notice my neighbours fell for it and his gang painted 4 houses in 3 hours!

 I  just go to the door and speak with a Polish accent 'No understand boss in Spain' they soon shove off, ;)

I actually DID have our local council harass me about our hedge last year. First contact was a letter from the highways department warning they'd do what your door caller said, not some fella knocking.
