Allotments 4 All

Please could someone enlighten me.  Red Kuri/Uchiki Kuri  Are these the same.  I have come across web sites that say that one is also called the other, and earlier posts from this site which state they are different.

I am confused big time. 

I am growing both and up until this morning was totally convinced they were not the same.  The plants are so different.  The red kuri have been extremely slow getting going. 

Courgettes, squashes and pumpkins are something of a speciality of mine.  Have been growing them for about 37 years.  Was introduced to Zucchini, squash and pumpkin pie on a visit to USA and was hooked.  You could buy marrows but courgettes were hardly known here at the time, though they were  in the seed catalogues, there were only one or two varieties.

Thanks daileg.  Now I am even more confused.  I did not know that uchiki kuri had black spots.

I have just googled images for both.  I do not think the black spots are typical. 

Still confused.  I shall see what develops from the two sets of plants.  If that is the Red Kuri can get its act together and produce anything at all.

The "Red Kuri" I'm growing, for the first time this year, are one of my strongest growers at the moment...  :-\

Uchiki Kuri does not have black spots!! The spots on that photo are probably due to some fungus or disease.

I grew Red Kuri and Uchiki Kuri last year but I am not convinced that the seed supplied was pure.

Uchiki Kuri seemed faster and easier to grow with a yellow fruit stem and an orange fruit skin.

The Red Kuri seemed slower to grow with a green fruit stem and a red/orange fruit skin.

I am growing them both again this year, so we shall see what happens.
