Unfortunatly Im having to move my allotment plot :)

Now luckliy there isnt to much to move at the moment as a lot were still sitting in pots at my house anyway. But my Onions and Garlic are doing really well at the site. Do they tollerate moving, or will it cause big problems?

They won't transplant but if they are over-winter onions they can be harvested.

we have had people move allotments, they made an agreement with the council to leave it behind with permision to harvest it when its ready.

That's the best solution...  :)

The problem is that the council are not maintaining the site, so the plot is pretty much inaccessable due to branbles and nettles at knee hight or higher. I have to walk over other peoples plots to get to mine, but now they are getting so overgrown also give it a couple more weeks and it will be impossible :(
So no matter how well we have kept ours cultivated and weed free its not helped us. Plus I have no access to water for them.

If I dig them out with as much soil round them so as not to disturb the roots and put them back in the ground straight away will it be okay? Will it kill them or attract any weird pests like carrots get carrot fly?

I wouldn't think you would kill the onions but it would seriously check their growth, when you replant them, water them well in to make them think they've not been moved. On second thoughts, if they've already gone soft, they might just rot if you move them. I guess you can only try.. or eat them now.
