Allotments 4 All

There is something chopping off the growing shoot of my beans, just where the paired leaves are. Ideas? (This is the only frme not yet netted....no sign of slug trails as |I have organic/pet friendly stuff down :( Will they recover/side shoots grow up...or stay 5 inches high :(

Probably slugs. They'll recover. A slug, or something equally slimy, beheaded a couple of my pea bean plants the other week but they're regrowing already.

 i have had simular problems with my beans mine turned out to be a pesky wabbit so now have covered all the sides of my beans up with glass panes to keep him out also had half of my brassicas lucky i sowed more than i needed as to replace them went through three lots of beans before i sorted it .
unfortunatly he has moved on to someone else plot now chomping there beans .
had to build a frame around the brassicas covered in netting to keep the dreaded white moth off

Hi,
The culprit is surley the dreaded Wood Pigeon.
I have had the problem from these little critters for a long time.
Best and only thing to do is cover with fleece or netting to stop the loss of valuable veggies from your plot.
The war on bugs and birds has started and there is not surrender by these specialists whoes only mission is to annoy the victim in this campaign,

I get absolutely the same results when my garden is visited by pheasants - they cropped the broad beans, the early peas, the lilies and the bergenia  flower heads
