hi all I went to my allotment yesterday to find that all of my runner beans have been eaten down to the ground! :-[ I am devastated as they were so strong and healthy when they went in last week. My question now is this. Am I too late to plant some beans in situ or would you advise buying some runner bean plants to replace them instead. Thanks in advance.

No its not too late to put more beans in.Mine where ruined by a late frost this time last year and I had to do them all again.

Not too late at all.  And I remember that late frost-------well it`s results,we had gone away for OH`s birthday and came back to see we had lost all the plums and pears as well as most of the beans.

If I've still got seed of yard long bean I'm going to be replanting today. It's not the first time. I've had beans wiped out by slugs, been in the same position as you, and still got a crop.

Flighty

I say no as I've sown my runner bean seeds this morning.
Flighty's plot,  http://flightplot.wordpress.com,  is my blog.

I wasn't sure but I don't have any. There are one or two that look as though they may survive so I might just manage enough to save seed.

I am planning to sow some next week (that is if I don't manage to get any at our plant sale). Will be sowing climbing beans and peas this week too.

I'm usually late with mine anyway as the main plot is in the shade of some very tall conifers until summer. They usually catch up though.
No fruit tree knowingly left un-tried. http://abseeds.blogspot.com/

Deffo not too late I sowed the second half of mine Sunday, make sure you put plenty of slug pellets down.  ;D ;D ;D
MAY THE CORN BE WITH YOU.

We always sow a second lot at this time directly in the ground to follow on from the ones raised indoors. This way we extend the cropping time :)
