Allotments 4 All

Not weather wise - whilst it was a bit gloomy the dry weather continued all weekend down my way, however this wasn't good as the soil was more or less dust.

What made it bad was coming down with some 'orrible cold following the mild day of digging and work on the Friday.  Didn't get out of bed till this morning.

I did however get a chance to watch a few movies including the boy with the blue striped PJs and 'Die Wielle' (the wave) - both worth a watch, but ideally try and grab the wave in german with subtitles.  Oddly a fascist weekend, but I followed it up with the doctor who episode and plenty of TV.

I ventured down this morning to survey the land (we had 4mm of rain last night according to my rain gauge) but it was still dry under the top layer of turf, so I gave everything I could a good soaking from the watering can until I got to the asparagus bed.  I was suprised to find more spears (some really, really thick) coming up - but was also shocked to find a bit of mares tail which I have to this day only seen in very thin strands - which was thicker than my thickest asparagus root.  A complete shock to me!

Needless to say I dug down as far as I could in the time available to remove the pest.

Not what you need in an asparagus bed...  :-\

Small pot of neat gyphosate and a paintbrush I think.....
