from the people that are bringing our new portaloo to the lottie, call me oldfashioned, but isnt 6.10 am a little early for them to call???? given that i had no prior warning about it at all? AND they were then expecting me to drop everything, work included,to be onsite by 9am. ive been waiting all day for it to turn out to be an april fools, but no.......... when i questioned the earliness of it all, they said, well,we start at 6!

Before towns had mains sewers toilets were "cess" pits... the fluids drained in to the soil and the solids built up. If you could afford it you paid "Night-soil Men"
to come and empty it out, they carted it out of town to spread on the fields...
( part of the reason why archaeologists find odd "spot-finds" of roman/saxon/viking/later artefacts apparently in the middle of nowhere)
