went around the plots today after a lot of digging, and got chatting to a guy who has now got 2 pigs, they are so cute 10 weeks old, they is also a turkey on another plot, I'm an old softie, i wouldn't want to let them go if I had reared them, they would become pets

He is a lucky guy, we not even allowed to keep hens now that our parish council runs the plots, I had six hens on mine when the borough council run them. wish I had a bit of a field or something then I could keep hens , pigs wotever.

This is illegal, Section 12 of the Allotments Act 1950, give an absolute right to all allotment holders to keep hens and rabbits.

In fact earlier acts allow allotments to be used for any animal husbandry, although the local authority can exclude that in tenency agreements. They cannot however stop you from keeping hens or rabbits. (note hens only, no right to keep cockerels)
