Allotments 4 All

All

I have an idea to create a hot bed by stacking 4 tyres and filling with fresh manure, compst material, newspaper and then a top say 6" of top soil/compost to create a hot bed.  I plan to get it set up, get courgettes growing from seed and transfering to the hot bed and covering the 'top' with glass or plastic.  By the time the 'lid' needs to come off (say early april?!?)  the frosts should (I say should, not will) have passed and I aim to get very early courgettes (probably a climbing variety due to space).  Does anyone think this will work?  Has anyone tried it?  Does anyone fancy trying similtaneously?  Could be a project and could be a chance to swap photos on progress....

Let me know opinion or whether you fancy trying.

Sounds very plausible... I'll keep an eye out for progress reports..  ;D

all systems go.  Might not get a chance to obtain tyres for a week or so but the seeds are in tonight now!!!

Should work but remember some councils class tyres as an enviromental hazard and don't allow them on allotments. I suggest you check your rules before building the beds, you don't want to get them planted & then find out you have to remove them.

That long haired chap on Gardener's world who odd did bits when the greatly missed Geoff Hamilton was on did that.

He reckoned it worked well.
