Allotments 4 All

As with my Brussel Sprouts post.... anyone think I could grow some purple sprouting broccoli in a container that is 45cm*27cm and 40cm deep..... and how many plants. If its just 1 plant, how much broccoli does that actually produce?

Only one plant.

Yep. It probably would grow one plant but unless the container is heavy concrete it's going to fall over.

One well grown plant should produce enough spears for a meal for a family of four once a week for about six weeks, if the pigeons don't beat you to it!!   ;D

Excellent stuff. The container won't blow over. There's only two of us to eat the stuff so it sounds worthwhile giving a plant a go.

yes the first time i grew this i had 6 plants for family of 4 + 1 fussy eating toddler, well we were drowning in the stuff , my neighbours were well happy :D and my husband is still threatening to pull up the 4 plants that will start to produce in a few weeks time :-\. ah well you win some and you ..... ;D

poxy sky rats  ate all mine this weekend, gooodness knows where the nets gone

Agree = one plant for one pot but the pot needs to be big and heavy. Stake it when you put it in, it's going to need support as it grows. You're not going to need many seeds cos the germination's good...do you have a few? If not, PM me.

Pigeons/collared doves/sky rats...grrrrrr I'm housebound atm & have been watching the c.doves feasting royally on my psb every day. The word's gone round. Hyaninth's garden for a freebie all-day breakfast! >:( Can't see where the fleece has disappeared to. Think that fleecing one plant in one tub might be the way to go next year for me, too, so post on your progress won't you.

I have seeds, but thanks for the offer. I'm not using a pot to grow them, but a vegetable planter.



When full of compost should be pretty sturdy. Think I'll grow one plant of an early PSB (Rudolph) and then a later one in a second planter. Should give the 2 of us plenty of PSB for a month or 2.
