I don't usually use this part of the forum having an IT consultant as my OH.
He has just come across this offer from Microsoft but it does require your child's school to set it up.

As a uni student, my microsoft office 2007 wasn't free, but was reduced down to 38.00 which I thought was reasonable.  Good link though, will pass that on to the boys school.

The software I use now is free and legal, we call it FOSS.

I contacted my school and was told they'd signed up so the school could have free software...but only for the ICT A level students to use at school not passing it on to anybody else.

Last year the school had it's hand out for lots of money so the school could become a Humanities specialist and parents responded in droves...doesn't work the other way though.
