my friend  has taken over a new plot and has a couple of blackcurrant bushes in inconvenient positions. can she just move them?  is there a good or bad time to do this and do you think they will survive if she does.  should she prune them first? any tips?  :)

I think that now is the best time to move them, as you need to do it before they start livening up again for the spring.
That is if the ground isn't frozen!

An expert will be along soon...

Not an expert but I agree with DTW plus I give you the same info as I gave Northener; http://www.thegardenersalmanac.co.uk/Data/Currants/Black%20currant.htm

Wilko's in Hitchin has onions, shallots, spuds.  They also have garlic, asparagus, horseradish, rhubarb plus a few other bits.

I bought loads of onions, probably too many and shallots.
