Good God - Just check the frost dates for Castleford, W Yorks  - Mid May!  No wonder my gas bill is so high!

Ditto - I'm in Wakefield so used Leeds on the Garden Action site to set mine and got the same result.  I checked my diary for 2008 - last frost 19 May, first frost 28 October so it is pretty spot on.

Sorry you were unable to get on to my website!

I am having a bit of trouble with some pages on my site and I don't know if it is 'MY' browser or not.  I can get what I want to see on IE but in Firefox (my browser) I have lost the back ground.

Here is the link you want (I hope)

http://www.thegardenersalmanac.co.uk/Data/Frost%20Zones/Frost%20Zones.htm

Perhaps if you get on to the page you could tell me the background colour, it should be green but on mine it is white??

Probably the reason you didn't get on this afternoon is; I re-loaded my entire site to see if that would work, it is about 80% uploaded as I write.

Back to your problem;

My frost dates are 'planting out dates' not sowing dates!.

Sowing dates are dependant on the facilities you have e.g. do you have the facilities to grow things on until planting out time?

This is why I give my planting out date!

The sowing dates on my website are all relative to my 'planting out date' so if you are a week or two in front of me for planting out it would be fair to assume that you would sow this much in front of me.

Nothing scientific about what I have done, the information is a summary of dates fed back to me when I set the website up.

Edit;

Just seen ausiedigger's comments and they coincide with my dates so it looks like my figures seem to be about right which is nice to know.

Thanks Tee Gee - the background colour is white.

I have a greenhouse (small!) plus 2 coldframes - 1 large (tent style) and 1 small.. my garden is also sheltered..

it was interesting reading when the author said to sow seeds.. just wondered whether it matched with my rough 'in my mind' sowing dates!!!   (book(s) by John Jeavons - "how to grow more veg" and "the sustainable vegetable garden" )..

according to your chart.. my planting out date is week 18  which I think is approx week bg April 12th....  which roughly ties in with a last frost date of late March bearing in mind these are all only approx guides....

think I might experiment a little this year with sowing (not that I don't not experiment anyway  :D )

thanks everyone!
