Allotments 4 All

I like white annuals but didn't grow many this year for some reason. Looking through a list of them I fancy Cosmos 'Purity', Snapdragon 'Snowflake', Sweet Pea 'Swan Lake', Morning Glory 'Pearly Gates' and Spider Flower 'Helen Campbell'.

What ones do you like and would recommend?

Nicotiana Affinis white.  I can probably even spare you some seeds if you'd like them?

i like white poppies don't know the scientific name though :-\

Thifasmom there's a  poppy (Papaver somniferum) 'White Cloud' which has extra large, pure white, fully double, Paeony-flowered blossoms! 

Night Scented Phlox... very long name beginning with X, small flowers but open in the evening or under bad light, great scent. Many carnations/pinks are white as well.

I grew the swan lake sweet pea this year and it was gorgeous - can definitely recommend that one.  :)

ooh sounds Divine will have to get me some, i think the one i have grown before is the single version :).

I second alyssum - smells like honey, and a good survivor. You can even run it along cracks in the paving, in walls, along border bricks - any inhospitable stony crannies that could do with softening. And it seeds itself too. A 'must-have' for me.

I agree about alyssum and nicotinia. A few more suggestions....

Nemophila maculata (Five-spot baby) has small, bowl-shaped white flowers and is a fast-growing, spreading annual.  It fills a sunny space very nicely. `White petunias (e.g. the Recoverer series)  give a great splurge of white, especially in containers, are easy to grow and last for ages. Lobularia maratima ('Carpet of Snow') forms mounds of small white flowers in summer and early autumn and performs a similar function to alyssum or aubretia) - i.e. excellent as a path edging or to fill paving cracks. Feverfew has small white flowers with yellow centres, plus bright green foliage (and medicinal properties of course).

Grew Purity cosmos last summer- it waves in the breeze- very perky.
Always white alyssum- so fragrant in sun.
White phlox Davidii- a perennial though but fragrant
Have a white clematis canadensis ____  very pretty
I'd like white moonflower except they take too long to flower, so never again.
white zinnia- so-so, not quite white

Saddad, do you mean Zaluzianskya capensis? It's fab isn't it? Also another vote for Nicotiana Affinis and Alyssum. Grew a white Sweet Pea this year which was absolutely gorgeous but can't for the life of me remember the name of it. Am trying Moonflower again next year as it ran out of time (... and heat... and sunshine) this year.

Will have to have a look through my collection as I'm sure I have more white annuals (my NON-addiction's making me lose track)
