Can someone explain betting odds to me in "cat sat on the mat" language? I have all sorts of vices, but have somehow missed out on the betting gene! What does 5/1 mean in cold hard cash?

5/1 = £1 on you would get £6 back (£5 win and your £1 back).

11-2 would be the same as 5.5 - 1.
