Allotments 4 All

Hi all, just to let you know that I have posted the latest update from my alloments, despite the time of year there is still plenty to do in preparation for next season, hope you enjoy it regards Steve.

Excellent and informative as always. Took in loads of Dahlias to work today for the office staff, as they are going to keel over if we get that frost. My Garlic has gone in today, OH did it, I always start my winter onions off in sets first then plant out, the birds are much less likely to pull them out then. Had never really thought about why they did it but that makes sense...   ;D

I cover mine with a couple of inches of grass mulch, that way the birds don't get to pull them about. This year I didn't get to it immediately, and several were pulled out. Some of the walking onions, which went in first, are just coming through.

I too have got some japanese onions, yours look like they are on the surface. Is that how you grow them or did you plant them in the ground ?

Those aren't mine, but I planted them that way before I mulched them. I normally dib a small hole and drop them in, so they're an inch or so down, but I couldn't find the dibber.
