Thiking back to Aqui's post about the relationship we form with our veg flowers etc, and now that its all nearly over. is it really?  maybe its our time to grow?  Each of us has expereinced one thing or another, and for me, something new comes every year, be it blight or an amazing drop dead gorgeous display of lillies,  I know through growing that I have grown too, have seen the most amazing things and I didnt have to go to the Seychelles or anywhere that has the label "exotic", it was all right there when I opened me front door and my back door, and when I meet peeps I tell them not about my house cus thats just bricks and mortar but me garden, and they just look and stare, most are bewildered by what i am saying to them and probbo think that I iz unhinged hahha but some, a few give me that acknowledgement. that only comes from someone who also knows, and they smile that knowing smile.. the others kinda of smirk, hahah a smirk of ignorance and no matter how much I say they simply dont comprehend, probbo cus they havent dug over the overgrown land, pulled the couch grass and the other nasties from the soil with their bare hands, taken out the stones and the rocks and the glass, cant believe where all the glass comes from.. not quite sure what I learnt this season, because its not fully over yet, I know I stand with huge respect over me courgette plant that is still fruiting and have helped it somewhat by covering her with fleece to keep of the cold night air, and you know what??? she likes it. okay the fleece is plain white but to that courgette plant it is equal to any one of Val Doonicans cardies and I believe the courgette plant thanx me.. spose I iz a bit like Frankie Drake who layed his coat over a puddle for a lady to walk over cept mine was some fleece and the lady was/is me courgette plant.. and quite a lady she is too and i am babbling and its not even the 1pm yet :) so will do what I do and just hit post

Ozz - I know exactly what you're babbling about! Non-garden peeps just don't get it, do they? Most of my friends of my age think I'm nuts because I can't go on holiday and leave my babies alone, or go out late in the summer because I'm knackered from digging, weeding, sifting, pruning, sowing, etc all day. But once you've got mud under your nails and bits of root in your hair you just can't stop, can you.

The season isn't over. There's still the winter veg brocolli, sprouts, snips, leeks etc. (I'm only growing leeks). And then there's all this year's plants that are busily composting away to feed next year's plants. The cycle never ends, it just gives us a well-earned rest!

I've learnt loads this year. Far more, I'm sure, than if everything had grown perfectly! ANd I'm not disheartened, just looking forward to putting it all into practise next year. Plus there's the therapy digging has given me. I cannot tell you how much my garden means to me, but I'm sure you know!
gone to pot :D

Oz, Mr W just came into the room and asked why was I grinning like a Cheshire Cat - showed him your post and then he was smiling too!!  Drake and Val Doonican - I love it.  what have I learnt this year - one thing is to be grateful that there are sites like this where I can "meet" people who share and encourage and who make me smile ;)
Equality isn't everyone being the same, equality is recognising that being different is normal.
