Can any of you rose experts tell me if its usual for the small patio roses to lose their leaves or if I'm doing something wrong?

My hubby was bought a small rose as a prize and it has been covered with blooms. I have kept it fed and watered but have noticed the leaves have dropped off just leaving the blooms. We bought a minature standard rose for a small patch we have revamped and that has doen the same. There are no obvious pests in sight.

Any ideas anyone?

I have a tendency to over water and have caused this to happen to patio roses.

If the leaves look healthy then that could simply be what has happened.

Thanks Purple Heather. I thought afterwards that maybe people thought I was just crazy as you can expect them to lose leaf now, but this happened earlier in the season and they look ridiculous with all the blooms on these little skeletal stems! Its happened to me before with these small roses. I don't seem to have probs with the full sized bushes.

The small standard rose is actually producing new shoots now which do have leaves so we'll see how long they last.   :-\

hope it's ok to ask another question about a tiny patio rose in a pot, bought for me as a present in July (it came from M & S & is supposed to be outside) it's had some lovely pale apricot coloured flower heads on it but some went very brown & dropped off.....think I overwatered on top of the rain that fell! right now it looks very healthy again with more buds still appearing, not sure if they'll bloom tho as I don't get any sun on my patio (even if there is any) at this time of year - it's moved around the garden a bit and doesn't reach my patio now :'(

I want to know please if I should leave it outside all thru the winter and should it stay in the same small pot (it's sitting on my garden table along with other things which will be replaced with bulbs when the time is right) or should it go into the ground? (I don't really want to put it in the ground) also should I feed it thru the winter and with what?

thanks HP

It should be fine in the pot.Just buy some rose food and apply a couple of times a year.

I like to buy bigger pots as the root can then not be to confined. :)
