Brugmansis were initially known as Daturas. However, because Daturas were associated with being poisonous they did not sell very well. Thuspart of the family was renamed Brugmansias. It sounds as though there were more than sufficient botanical reasons for reclassification, but there's no denying it was convenient for the sellers!
