anyone else upgraded to this and having problems- I can't enable the Automatic Update

I have installed this and it works fine but I had the problem your having on the previous version. I had to manually allow it through my firewall and then it worked.

I checked on an AVG forum, there was a post that said you couldn't enable updates if you were using FAT32 file system rather than NTFS. I had to cobble this PC together when my main hard drive died on the IDEs of March

If you are using a relative recent version of windows (2000 onwards I think) you can convert a FAT32 to NTFS easily.
Open up a command promt by going to the start menu -> run and type cmd in the box and hit return. You should then get a black box. Type the following into the box...

convert c: /fs:ntfs

The c: should be replaced by whatever drive letter you want to convert.
This happens WITHOUT deleting any files etc and is supported by micro$oft.

thanks woppa,  I was going to do that. No benefit in formatting the disc and starting from fresh, I suppose? I just like doing it to show the computer who's in charge, like with the HAL 9000

I've had the free version for about a couple of months now and I don't seem to have any problems. I'm running Vista SP1 Home Premium. The first time I log on each day I check the updates, having had major virus problems with previous m/cs, but AVG always tells me the system is up to date and no more updates are available. I've set the schedule to update at 11:59pm each day, but when I'm not logged on at that time it seems to update during the next login process. Great programme with anti-spyware as well. How do they do it for nothing.  ???

I've upgraded to V8.0.

I have a system that is swappable between Windows XP and Ubuntu Linux. The system disc is swappable with a disc caddy for each system. The data disk is mounted as a cable select (slave) HDD and is available to both systems.

V8.0 is installed on the XP HDD (the Ubuntu system does not require any anti-virus). I did a scan on the computer (under XP), it took over an hour to scan the C: disk. About 400,000 files. I stopped it when it started on the D: drive.

I seldom use the XP system. Ubuntu is so much better. When I get set-up with the HP printers (I already have a Mono laser), I shall probably not use XP at all.

I don't like to use automatic update, I like to see what they're installing onto my computer and have the change to not install a programme if I dont want it.

I didn't think AVG 8 was free.  Had AVG for years, but now have Avast on main pc and Avira on laptop, which seem less resource hungry than AVG.

I have been using AVG free for a couple years and it seems to work very good. I just upgraded to V 7.55 and have had no problems.
