Storing potatoes

After yet another disastrous year in our garden, our neighbours have taken pity on us again and started plying us with their surplus produce.

Yesterday we were given bags containing yellow haricot and runner beans.  No problem here as I will freeze them.  My husband was then called over and was told to bring his wheelbarrow;  he came back with it completely full of potatoes.

As we live in Brittany, France we are really pleased with this kindness shown to our family.  My husband speaks good French but the only thing he was told was to put them where it is black.  We have a dark garage that we could store them in but how?  Do they need to been in bin liners, onion style sacks, in trays...etc.?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks for those excellent links, I will now nip to the local Shoppi and relieve them of their surplus fruit boxes.

I can see a fun afternoon of sorting spuds, I cannot complain though - free food  :)
