I have a regular composter and put veg peelings and paper and the occasional grass cuttings.
I found a load of flying and normal ants covering the surface of the compost and also loads of what i assume are eggs.
Should i do anything about them or let them do their business ?

I would just leave them, I have a nest in mine too.
Their tunnels help with aeration. :D

They produce a nice fine compost.

trouble is that they can be a nuisance when you want to move the compost! If it's on the allotment then it is not too bad. Wear gloves and move it quickly!

I often get ants in my compost bins at this time of year, but they never stay there long.
