Hi, I'm not really a newby but I haven't been on here for ages. When I joined I was on the waiting list for a allotment, still on the waiting list :(

I live in Ilkley, West Yorkshire and a bunch of people wanting allotments have gotten together and are looking at renting a field off a farmer and turning it into allotments. It's all looking good so far, we have a field in conversation and I think, fingers crossed, we should get the go ahead soon enough  ;D

Great news Jo,let us know how you get on :)

Good for you & good luck! We worked out on here that a savvy farmer should be able to make about £1,000 an acre renting as allotments at a fair price, whereas you'd normally expect £200 an acre a year renting it normally (assuming it's good land)...

Out of interest, are you negotiating a long lease? I'd be interested to know how that works...

JoJoBean

I think the plot of land we're in talks about is about 1.5 acres, I'm not 100% on that as I'm not actually the one doing the talking with the farmer lol

We've offered him £1500 for a year and we think he will accept, he's just thinking about it but has pretty much said yea so hopefully he says it for sure.

I think we're getting a long lease, I'll update asap :)

Great news, the farmer has agreed to rent us the field  ;D We just have to put in a planning aplication now and hope for the best.

Is someone keeping a blog? This could be brilliant inspiration for others.

JoJoBean

Nope, nobody is doing a blog but good idea, I may start one :)
