hi all. how long do peas and beans take to start comeing through mine been in two weeks now not a sign yet lol

I assume you've sown them direct into the ground.

We never do this.  Basically between the damp, mice, etc we find it easier to start them off in the greenhouse, and plant them out when they have reached a reasonable size.

But if you have sown them direct, be patient, the weather of late hasn't been that inviting to pop a head out into. They'll appear. as long as no holes or newly turned earth is around the site of the seed sown. If the soil has been disturbed, u've been burgled.

I always used to plant my peas direct, never noticed any disturbance to the ground, and always saw a few peas scattered about, after I'd carefully made sure they were all buried. Then next day, a few more would be scattered. It stopped once I started covering them. I'm convinced it was birds, and these days I germinate all my legumes under cover.

As do I, give it another week or so and you should see them coming up.

I have found planting straight into the ground can be a bit hit and miss. Now I start all peas and beans off in the greenhouse and get much better results.  A pack of peas sown  into a length of guttering makes it easy to plant out in a strip once they have come through. If you've no sign of anything after a couple of weeks it sounds as if the mice an/or birds have helped themselves.

The reason we start all our beans/peas indoors it the claggy, clarty clay soil we have to contend with.  Sow a seed direct, and it will rot off.  Over the past 30 years, we have spent a lot of time and effort improving the soil structure of the garden, but there are some areas which are not very good, despite our efforts.

hi all
my beans are growing well nearly to the top of the canes with plenty of flowers,but no sign of any beans,how do i encourage the flowers to set ??? ??? ???

My biggest problem has been the wind, pushing over the wigwams...  :'(

thanks guys was getting worried but i feel better now i be looking forward to the popping the heads through lol
