Which is best horse manure or cow manure?  I have always used horse manure but this year I was given some cow manure and I don't think it is as good.   Maybe its the weather but kidney beans have yellow leaves and my courgettes are not growing too well.

Tomatoada, lots of people have posted about their beans being yellow and courgettes not doing well this year, so it may not be the manure, me included. 

Your post jumped out at me for that reason and I feel heartened that I am not the only one suffering like this. :-[

If you look in the Edibles section there are several threads that end up on the same subject.  Think it must be the weather, perhaps the cold nights we had recently.  Still hoping my beans do something but they look a bit pathetic at the moment. :(

It is the eternal argument on our site.

We get horse manure free and some PAY for cow manure saying that it is better.

I think that there are just some people who like to pay for things.

We also have a vegan on site who only uses none animal compost and gets great results too.

Not sure which is better for plants. However, i have used well rotted horse and cow on different beds this year - my first year! The horse seemed to be a good mulch, but produced a lot of weed seeds. The cow mixed in very well to our unworked (previously) very heavy clay soil. I could even get a good seed sowing texture with the cow manure. Wish i new the scientific answer to which was the best for the plants though...
