Help me with a horse mystery?

The field next to our allotments had some horses put into it a couple of weeks ago. Both horses though seem to be wearing a blindfold - it definitely isn't a guaze thing to keep out flies but fairly thikc canvas.

I know some horses can be skittish in a new environment, and I suppose us lottie holders could be enough to scare the horses, but I would have thought that they would get used to a new environment pretty quickly - so have decided this can't be the full reason.

They also have a electric fence keeping them to a small sector of the field - so is the blindfold so they don't hurt their eyes on the electric fence? I haven't seen anyone with them yet to ask, and my curiosity is growing into an irritable nag (no pun intended). Does anyone have a clue what may be going on?

Horse mystery solved.

Apparently both had eye problems and on medication - issues with a problem fly population in a previous field. The blindfolds whilst looked like heavy canvas did have guaze near the eyes so they could see, the guaze and the head cover kept the flies in the new field away from the eyes whilst they recovered.

Hi Suzanne. Just moved to Australia. Many of the horses where this sort of sexy head gear in the summer because of the number of flies around. Doesnt seem to bother them - as much as the flies would!
when the going gets tough..........

It does look a bit strange doesn't it.  :)
