Allotments 4 All

Was ecstatic last weekend when we got dropped off a load of horse manure but on looking close its mixed with wood shavings and seem to recall reading somewhere that this takes nitrogen from the soil??  I'd be gutted if we could not use it.  Any advice much appreciated. pammiep.

Yes I read that in Terry Walton's allotment book. I think you need to leave it to rot down in a heap somewhere and then it would be ok.

If you mixed some chicken manure pellets into it that might help correct the 'problem' too as they are very high in Nitrogen, just a thought?

It's full of horse pee so it's got nitrogen, but all sorts of things can happen as it decays. Pile it up, cover it, and leave it for six months to rot.
