Allotments 4 All

Just clearing the last of the leeks and most have now gone to seed. Is it possible to cook these or freeze them? Hate to waste them as there are quite a lot.

They will probably have a core by now so might not be that good to eat as such -no reason not to make a bucket load of soup though

Keep the seed! I find leek seeds very expensive.

Have always grown from seed but over here you can get the little plants really cheaply so I'm going to give it a go this year! Means I can use the seedling space for something else doesn't it?!! ;)

If you find that you have 2 many leeks for soup then drop them off at your local soup kitchen something like the salvation army. I dropped off the last of my kale and a massive bag of greens for there sunday dinner a couple of weeks back along with some rhubarb and the staff were very grateful. One of my fellow allotment holders had 1/2 a large bag of spuds grown last year they dropped off in Feb which got a simular response  ;)
