I am so glad I joined allotments for all .I have picked up some really good tips ,Its my first time with a new allotment this year, the allotment I had last year [my very first] was flooded all season, so I did not have any crops at all with the exception of a few runner beans . and i am looking forwards to a good season on the new plot .once again thanks for all the tips
keep them coming.

Hey Bridgehouse!
Good luck for this growing season, hopefully you'll be spared the flooding.

Robert_Brenchley

Mine got devastated by floods as well last year, but unless you're really unlucky, it doesn't happen too often. If it wasn't for the flood risk, I'm sure mine would have been built over long since, so I can't complain too much.

Hi Bridgehouse, welcome to the group.

This group has been fantastic for me, I spend so much time on here that my partner wonders if I'm having an affair with people on here!!!  ;D

Where are you? The flooding was bad last year and although I live in Gloucester (one of worst hit apart from Hull) we didn't actually get flooded at the plot, although the constant rain stop us doing as much as we wanted.

Let's hope this year is a good summer!

Hello Glosterwomble

I live about seven miles from B''ham on the Warwickshire boarder did not suffer floods as such .it was only on my pitch I have found out since the man that had my plot before me removed the top soil . so my pitch was below path level [it was sunken down] so it was flooded all season .I can only think this man put the top soil on his other plot. but I do not know for sure. and I never met up with him [I wonder why Lol] I have a nice plot now, but only after i complained about the first one..

We are off to Heligan soon, if only to pick up a packet 'Fat Lazy Blonde' lettuce seed. When you are off to Eden it might be worth asking here about best time of day ,getting tickets elsewhere ,so no queues etc.

The  last I heard re Eden  that on a hot day people stay away  around mid day thinking that the glass houses will be too hot  in fact they are okay. But if you ask the question in The Shed  you might get a better response.

Tee Gee

Try this for a taster of Heligan; http://tinyurl.com/6hkagr and this for the Eden project; http://tinyurl.com/6mqoe4

Thanks TeeGee ,how many spiders do you think live in the pot shed? I 've seen those small pots selling for £2 each!

glosterwomble

Heligan .... OOOOOHHH My spiritual home  ;D !! It really is a lovely place. The first time I went someone lent me the book about it. I have to say it made such a difference to have read up about the history and restoration before we went, it really made the place come to life to have read the ins and outs of it before.
