Allotments 4 All

Hi All,

Just uploading a few pics - helps me keep track and gives you a nosey.

Being in London it is tiny compared to some - but better than nothing! Will upload more once i have done a bit more work on it.

THose roots just keep going down! I dig a bit - get disheartened so dig elsewhere - then go back to it once i have had enough of uprooting grass! And there are about 10 of them...

Dig it out ruthlessly, then keep pulling as the shoots emerge. It will die off as long as you keep going.

Cut it off and treat whats left with a brushwood killer. You can then concentrate on more satisfying work elsewhere. I  personally would first time kill the grass and other weeds with weedkiller then go green from that point on. This saves you lots and lots of time, and effort but does cost.

Looks like rose bushes!  Why don't you just get a pair of secateurs and cut below the root level?  I am all for an easy life!

Looks like you have a relatively "blank canvas" although I can see the  some deep beds!  Plenty of room for you to have loads of stuff in there!

Yep it is now mostly all dug over - dug as much root as possible but it is impossible to get rid of everything - if anything grows back i will just get rid of it as needed!

Plans are done (actually just done another post on that!). Just waiting for decent weather now really.

get all your rubbish in a pile on top of it,  and burn it ;D then if any regrowth comes wait until they have 3/4 leaves then spray it off with the brush wood

I would to do that but no fires are allowed. Its only a small place and you cant have a personal shed either - we have a communal one.

I am amused about the "communal shed"  How strange - what if one of your "sharers" was dodgy and stuff went missing?  It would create a horrid atmosphere as to who it was that was dodgy! 

I suppose it must be nice to have "somewhere" to store stuff, in London particularly space is at a premium! I just found it funny at the thought of "sharing shed space".!

The best bit is that i haven't even opened the door to that shed yet - apparently there are individual lockers in there too.

I just leave my stuff on the plot! I have a fork sticking out the floor, 2 trowels in raised beds, and a rake lying somewhere (waiting to be trodden on cartoon-style no doubt!)

Probably not the best practice but sometimes i just cant be bothered...

My shed has half a roof and no windows and looks like a stiff breeze would blow it down; there are four of us and soon to be more sharing it, as it never has anything pinched nor is targeted by vandals! Keep meaning to look at new sheds, but though it's horrible, it does the job!
