I HAVE ACCESS TO A MATURE BOYSENBERRY AND WOULD LIKE TO PROPAGATE A NEW PLANT.
RATHER THAN TRYING TO PROPAGATE BY THE MORE TRADITIONAL METHOD OF SECURING A SHOOT IN THE GROUND UNTIL IT HAS ROOTED IS IT POSSIBLE TO TAKE A CUTTING AT THIS TIME OF THE YEAR AND POT UP IN THE NORMAL WAY AND WOULD IT HELP TO USE ROOTING COMPOUND?

Not sure that would work BUT can you have a look down the base and see if there are any side shoots you could cut out with some roots on ??? Think you would have more of a chance.
If not do the same way as currant cuttings and yes hormone powder would help, make sure its sandy compost and plant 1/3 of the cutting, then tuck away and apart from making sure it doesnt dry out forget it till next year :)

In my experience, the tip rooting method of propagation is far more likely to succeed than trying to take cuttings.
You could try it now, peg down the end of a stem that has grown during 2007.
You can peg it down directly into the soil, or what I do when I have time,  is to peg them into a pot filled with gritty soil placed close to the main plant, this tends to have very good results and the roots grow into the pot so you don't have to dig them up.

THANKS FOR THE ADVICE...........I WILL TRY AS YOU SUGGEST AND HOPE THE CUTTINGS ROOT.
I ACKNOWLEDGE THE OTHER METHOD IS MORE LIKELY TO SUCEED BUT UNFORTUNATELY I WILL NOT HAVE ACCESS TO THE PARENT PLANT IN THE NEW YEAR SO I HAVE TAKEN SOME CUTTINGS AS A LAST RESORT.......LETS HOPE IT WORKS AND THANK YOU AGAIN. 

If you can cut an entire rod from the existing bush try digging a deepish hole, plant the fat end in it then arch it over and peg down the last 6-8 inches of the tip into a pile of good leaf mould or manure. This way the tip won't even know it's been cut off and will do what it does best. Root and grow.
