Anyone know how to unlock a region code by remote control for a DVD player to covert to Region '0'?

Now - you have to be much more specific than that :-)

Let us know the make and model number, I'll see if I can google you the answer.

Hi Riffter,
I have a Sony VCR/DVD Recorder Model RDR-VX420.
I understand that one can use an unlock code using the remote to unlock the factory-set config. flag to another region (pref O).
I have tried http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks
but the model I have has not been tried.
The American equivalent is not known at this time.
Cheers.

As I understand it, the code change is limited to 5 changes. After that it does not work, so be aware that this facility is for changing when you move from one region to another. Be sure to check if this is the case.

Thanks Larkshall & Wassisname,
I searched 'afterdawn' (good site), but so far failed to locate the model I have. Another Sony machine might have the same methodology but will require more research to find it.
Not going to be beaten on this one. Any more help will be gratefully received!

Sony VHS / DVD combis cannot be modified by any means. They are not actually manufacturered by Sony just badged which complicates things.

Baccy Man,
Interesting that! Thanks.
Makes the job more challenging methinks!

Did finally get a response from Sony UK (not for hacking you understand).
This is the useless reply:

Thank you for your recent enquiry.

Each Sony Marketing Company decides in advance which products they will sell, based on local market trends.  Unfortunately, we only have information and specifications for UK marketed products, so we are unable to give you an equivalent model number for any USA products.

Products that are marketed in Europe are specifically designed for use in Europe. The UK models and the worldwide models will not necessarily have the same specifications, and therefore the information supplied on the Sony Europe website will not necessarily apply to Sony UK products.

I am sorry for any disappointment this may cause.

In other words - 'Got your money now f**k off'.
