Allotments 4 All

I have two strawberry beds. One flowered early but I got no fruit from it, the other flowere later and had lots of fruit. shall I ditch the first lot or take runners from it?
the second lot, the lot I was pleased with is not in the area I want it in. could I pot up the plants and move them to another bed. If I chose to leave them in pots, would they fruit as well as they did in the ground? I thought of doing this so the fruit would not get muddy from the soil and to save me putting straw down. What do you think?
