Hi

My yellow bird patty pan squash plant is doing well, but occasionally during the summer, one or two of the fruits have gone rotten and dropped off. It hasn't spread to the rest of the plant but last time I saw a rotten one I got worried and put it in a plastic bag and disposed of it

Is it something terrible??

If they weren't very big when this happened, I'd guess that they weren't actually viable fruits, i.e. they hadn't been pollinated properly and so they wouldn't have amounted to anything anyway. I've noticed this a few times, and just pull the fruit off and chuck it. Nothing to worry about if the rest of the plant is healthy.

yes the rest of the plant seems healthy - so that's a relief.

Maybe I should be putting some effort into pollinating the flowers, I'd just left them to their own devices.
