Allotments 4 All

 Hi all,
          among all the doom & gloom surrounding potato blight, a ray of sunshine ;D
My picasso spuds had signs of blight nearly 3 weeks ago, so I took the decision to chop off their haulms, yesterday I dug a row of 8 plants & lifted 20 kilos (44lbs ) of great looking spuds ;D, with another 24 plants to dig. They were planted in mid March & we had no late frosts to set them back. Moral of the tale, plant early to beat the blight.  My one concern is will they store through the winter having come out of the ground a bit early?

Had to do the same with mine Adrian, went in on the 4/4th... so her's hoping. The only spuds above ground now are a trial row of Sarpo's... so they seem to be right about blight resistance..

Most mains store well... in the shed the Picasso were still good in February despite the mild winter..

Picasso stored well last year. Been lifting mine today and already nearly filled a sack.  If you've cut the haulm down & then let things rest, all should be well. Assume it is, but keep checking as we get on through the winter.

I wish we could grow enough to need to store any but having 5 kids means we eat lots of spuds.
