Rhubarb Thrasher

I have got two of my potatoes mixed up. They are Rocket and Swift. One of them's cropped great and the other is quite poor. Can anyone confirm that Rocket is pure white inside (the good one), and Swift (the poor one) is more creamy yellow?

Thanks

Our Rocket are pure white and large this year, also seem to boil/bake\roast etc really well.

Same 2 1st earlies as me RT, and similar results (I averaged about 4 small spuds per swift). Sounds like you have them the right way round. I really love the look of the Rocket flesh.

thanks for that. Rocket again next year it is then

I grew 8 swift and they did Ok for me, yet the last time I tried them they were useless.. I didn't buy these but couldn't just throw them!

I'd struck them off next year's list, but maybe it's a little harsh to judge anything by this year's performance. So maybe I'll put them on the "possible" list...

I'm disappointed with my rocket - they are enormous (bigger than my hand now), not very tasty and smaller ones are riddled with critter damage.

Have ordered Charlottes for next year (yes already !)

The only merit in both Rocket and Swift is that they mature very quickly, quality and flavour have both been sacrificed to this.  If you are prepared to wait an extra week or so try Foremost.  Not only does it have a much better quality and flavour, but it is also much less attractive to slugs, and it will store for quite a long time.

For the best quality and flavour of all the earlies (but a bit later still) try Sharpes Express - a smooth skinned, kidney shaped, yellow fleshed potato, which not only stores, but is also the only early which makes decent chips.

I chose this years potatoes partly on disease resistances - after last years performance with the Maris Bard. Kestrel for instance, nice crop but not a great potato either for taste IMHO. The Charlottes have cropped amazingly this year as well (and they are a nice potato)

what are the disease/pest resistances for Sharpes and Foremost btw?

Kepouros

Both are about average as far as blight resistance is concerned.  As far as slugs are concerned, Foremost is notably less prone to attack, and while I cannot claim this for Sgarpes, none of mine were marked in any way.
