Good for him.  Gives me another reason to make snide comments about their veg when I'm in the queue buying my non-food goods  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

So now their organic carrots are from Spain.

Do not trust any of them, we shall find out in the end that they are not even Organic. :o :o :o

I was in Asdas last week ans they had mankey (half Rotten) garlic which was flow from China. Hows that for supporting local growers.

Love Charlie Boy. At least he tries, he may not have his feet as firmly planted in reality as the rest of us peasants but the man loves to grow things, so he must be a good guy!
Hate supermarkets but they are not the only villians as far as I am concerned. Shops like Primark are just as bad. No-one questions WHY these clothes are so cheap. If you pay £2 for a t-shirt how much did the person making it get paid? If you buy coffee from Starbucks have you considered the profit they make compared with how much they pay the growers? Or the fact that they stop growers from trademarking their beans as then Starbucks have to pay more for them?
I know the majority of people on here do consider these things but so many people just think, cheap and convenient, works for me, i don't have to think any deeper than that.

I tried tentatively looking into the exploitation issues concerning cheap goods a while back.  From what I could make out cheap prices weren't necessarily a sign of greater exploitation than more expensive goods.  It may just be a case of bulk stocking and lower profit margins per item that keeps prices lower in some shops.  On the other hand, some were lower priced due to giving the primary producers a pittance.  Tis all very complicated.  At least if you by locally produced and sold goods you've a chance of knowing where your money goes.


Oh, and Prince Charles - I think there are two of him, the Jekle Charles and the Hyde Charles.  One minute he's coming out with enlightened ideas and comments and just when you warm to him he goes and puts one's royal foot right in it.

'Tis a minefield Si but generally speaking the cheaper it is, the further away it was made.

Asda and tesco manage like you say by buying in enormous bulk. Poor Charlie, he IS royal and that puts him at huge genetic disadvantage to the rest of us.  ;D

Our waitrose has part of the fruit and veg area dedicated to local stuff from local farms.  They also stock 'ugly' fruit and veg that are odd shapes ( more natural if you ask me ).

Much better than tescos local milk. They only have 4 farms the milk comes from accross the UK and they class 150 miles as local!!
