Growinng Onions, I've Noticed That Seed Pods Are Growing From The Top Of The Stems, Firstly Are Some Of These Seeds Worth Keeping And Growing Next Year  ??? Or Is It Best To Cut Them Off And Let The Plants Mature, Also What Is The Best Metod Of Storing Onions As They All Ripen At Virtuallly The Same Time, And How Long Will They Last.

they say to break the seed off as low down as possible and the onion wont store.

As it happened in all this rain, mine have all rotted in the ground so i give up on onions this year!

The giant onions that folk grow more for show normally do not store well.

The smaller cooking onions will last for about 5 or 6 months if stored in a dry place.

I store mine a couple of ways.In onion bags I scrounge from the local supermarket when they have finished with them and in bakers trays.

Some I know string them up like garlic but I get all my fingers and thumbs in the way and make a mess of it.They hang them from the roofs of their shed and garages.

I'm still eating my onions from last year - some have sprouted and others have rotted, but still have a lot left to get through.

Doesn't matter how many we grow, we finish them by Christmas.  I calculate how many we would use a week, multiply by 52, add 10% for wastage, 10% for giving away, 10% just-in-case and still don't have enough.   :-\ :-\ :-\
