Don't laugh but my radish so far this season have been rubish! but after listening to 'God' Flowerdue on GQT say how delicious the seeds pods were I thought I'd take a closer look before chucking them on the compost heap , and discovered about 3 punnets full of seed pods, WOW soooooo much better to eat than the bulb itself and more to eat too!! from now on I won't get upset about my crappy roots!!! anyone out there grow radish for the pods?? I hear there is a variety called ratstail grown for the pods..........

I'm growing the Ratstail radishes, they are just coming up to podding now, can't wait! ;D
If it's not pouring with rain, I'm either in the garden or at the lottie! Probably still there in the rain as well TBH....🥴

I too am growing radishes for their pods. However germination was poor and the plants are only a couples of inches high! Don't hold out much hope for them!

I don`t grow them for the pods per se but do like to nibble the odd one throughout the season. I wonder how many gardeners miss out on things like rocket flowers and the flowering stems of pak choi and it`s relatives are wonderful stir fried.

Oh educate me please, I have never seen a radish pod,do I jsu let the plant go to seed?? Sounds good.

Yes, Jeannine, you eat the pods while they are still young (crisp and juicy). Any radish pod is good to eat but longer rooted ones hold the weight of pods better. My radishes have been rubbish this year too. I think the soil is too dry.

Jeannine

But how do you get the pods and when ???????/

Just let it bolt and leave it to set pods. ;) You can even buy a variety sold especially for pod production. Don't let the pods go big or they will be too tough.
