How do I get the seeds from tomatos.

Squeeze the pulp and the seeds out into a jar; if there isn't much liquid, add a little water. Leave it till it's got a good covering of mould on the surface. Then keep filling the jar with water and rinsing away anything that floats till you've just got clean seeds sitting at the bottom. Don't worry about floating seeds; they're no good anyway.

I do similar I place the pulp on a sheet of glass and let the juices & seed dry then scrape the seeds off when dry.

What I like about your way is you separate the non viable seed (floaters) obviously my way I don't.

Now for the reason I do mine my way;

Some old lads on the plot would let some of their tomatoes go over ripe, pick them then throw them at the greenhouse windows.
They would splatter all over the place but the system worked! my way is a less messy variation of their system ::)

Absolutely, the mould is what eats away at the jelly stuff around the seeds

Bought some small plum type Toms from Tesco, saved 5 seeds, put on newspaper to remove jelly and moisture, put them between two used teabags for a week as I read somewhere the tannin has the same effect as seed going through the body, put seed on wet kitchen paper in a margarine tub with lid and waited 4 days, today I potted up 4 little seeds with 1/4 inch tails, so from Tom to seedling =12 days, whether they are true to Toms I bought remains to be seen.

Potting on fresh seeds you need only wash them.

Thanks Jeannine, maybe no need to wash the seeds, as a friend put a tomato in a window to finish ripening, when he cut it open the seeds inside had germinated and had begun to grow.

I just splatter the seeds out onto a piece of kitchen roll, write the name of the variety at the top and let them dry out on the window sill. When dry, fold in half & store. I've never had any problems, even though it's very rough & ready.

Just like me ;D  This is what I've done for years. Tear off a piece off the seeded kitchen roll and plant the lot - how easy is that!

I do exactly the same as Lish ;D works every time / shadesx

Think I'll give this a go.......off to find a jar............  :D
